Downtown Greenroof Garden
Benchmark Landscape’s award-winning Installation division recently completed another beautiful rooftop garden at the 530 B Street building, in downtown San Diego, for general contractor Prevost Construction.
During installation, a large crane was utilized to hoist hundreds of trays of succulent plant material atop the 3-story building. Bulk soil and decomposed granite were also lifted into place to create the rooftop garden. Aluminum headerboard was used to create planters, along with lightweight raised planters. Drip irrigation was installed throughout the planters and plumbed into all the raised planters, to provide a suitable water source.
The owner for this site is Kearney Real Estate Company. Rocio Gertler of LdG Landscape Architects drew the designs while long-time Benchmark veteran, Margarito Corona, was the project foreman. Coordination with the general contractor and the other trades was critical, as space and accessibility was limited. This made the project challenging yet rewarding for Benchmark’s expert Installation Team. The renovations proved to be a valuable investment for the property, estimated at roughly $100,000.
