Benchmark Landscape Construction was founded in 1984 to provide landscape installation services to San Diego’s homebuilders. In the early days, projects were bid on a kitchen table in Santee and equipment and materials were stored in a garage in Tierrasanta. From the very beginning, Benchmark was focused on delivering quality landscaping and exceptional service. The goal was to build a reputation based on high quality workmanship, value and completing the job on time. Benchmark Landscape Construction also wanted to be a great place to work, providing good wages and opportunities for all employees.
As the company grew, the importance and value of providing professional, high quality landscape maintenance services to existing clients was recognized as well. Quality landscape installation and maintenance went hand in hand.
Benchmark Landscape Construction grew rapidly during the 1980’s. The economy was strong and the home building industry was booming. The company was making a name for itself as a leading contractor for installing and maintaining Model Home landscaping.
In the early 1990’s, the company ownership structure changed and the name changed to Benchmark Landscape. The economy was not good then. “Stay alive til ‘95” was the industry mantra at the time. As a team, Benchmark became more organized, efficient, and diversified. This fine-tuning of operations, and taking the steps to build up the maintenance/management component, helped prepare the company for the second half of the 90’s – another growth period for Benchmark.
In 1999, Benchmark moved into their new home, an 18,000 square foot professional industrial facility on 1.5 acres in Poway. The business plan all along was to focus on San Diego County, with the goal to be San Diego’s premier commercial landscape contracting firm.
As the company continued to grow, the need for more facility space was evident. Benchmark has always planned to remain a regional player, and efficiently service San Diego from multiple locations. Commute time for employees and drive time for crews needed to be reduced, and fuel costs continued to rise.
In 2005, the company opened a 1.1 acre yard in San Marcos, and in 2007, a 1.3 acre yard was opened in Spring Valley. Benchmark Landscape is positioned to service its customers better than ever.
Today, Benchmark Landscape maintains many premier properties throughout San Diego County, and year after year constructs numerous complex and high profile landscapes. Their client list is quite diversified and impressive.
The company vision remains the same, ‘set the standard for landscape contracting in San Diego’. The mission is simply to ‘increase the landscape beauty, functionality, and value of their client’s property’. With over three decades of providing quality maintenance and installation services, the company continues to build upon its reputation for quality, service and value.
