Multi-Level Landscaping in East Village

Multi-Level Landscaping in East Village

Multi-Level Landscaping in East Village

Feb 5, 2018 | Landscape Projects |

The Benchmark Installation Team recently completed the landscaping at Alexan, a new luxury apartment community in the East Village neighborhood of Downtown San Diego. Alexan boasts panoramic city and bay views and hotel-inspired amenities, including a rooftop pool and spa with BBQ areas, an outdoor courtyard complete with a zen waterfall feature, a 6th floor deck with firepits and grills, a dog park, and more.

The 313-unit community, located at the corner of 14th Street and K Street, was designed to have a modern, sophisticated yet timeless feel for residents, centered around a luxurious lifestyle. Also on the property is a 100-year-old church that’s been converted into an indoor-outdoor restaurant.

Landscaping elements included in the project:

  • Multi-level landscaping, on 1st, 2nd, 6th, & 18th floors
  • A large succulent “green wall” in the community’s courtyard
  • Dog park with artificial turf
  • Outdoor entertaining area with firepits and outdoor grills

The $425k project posed several unique challenges for the Installation Team, led by Foreman Oscar Gomez, who coordinated closely with the client, Swinerton Builders, and Landscape Architect, Landlab, throughout the duration of the project. Plant material had to be brought in via crane due to the building’s location and access, and completion was expected within a shorter-than-average timeframe.
