Smart Irrigation – The Latest in Irrigation Trends

Nov 23, 2020 | Landscape News |

Technology is ever-changing in landscape irrigation, with the goal of improving water efficiency – saving money related to water costs, allowing plants to get the right amount of water at ideal times, reducing waste and run-off, and offering more precise watering techniques and uniformity.

Here are some examples of smart irrigation technology and how they can promote healthy landscape for your property – keeping it looking its best – while also reducing water costs and conserving water.

Smart Irrigation Controllers

Smart irrigation controllers are among one of the latest innovations in landscape maintenance and water management. Stand-out features include: built-in sensors that auto-adjust water run times based on weather and soil conditions, easy irrigation scheduling, and integration with phone apps.

Rain Sensors

Rain sensors prevent automatic irrigation systems from running during and after periods of rain. Sensors work by detecting water, shutting off timers – overriding the current schedule – and then resuming when the rainwater has evaporated. They’re easy to use and a useful, economic tool for reducing waste and maximizing water usage and effectiveness.

Rotating Nozzles

Rotating sprinkler heads offer more precise water application, providing even, adequate coverage by utilizing less water. Compared to traditional spray nozzles, rotating nozzles spray water in multi-directional streams, much more slowly, and can be adjusted and customized to specific property landscape requirements. They not only reduce water usage, they limit overspray and run-off, sometimes caused from wind and other weather conditions, allowing water to penetrate the soil – giving plants the nutrients they need.

Incorporating smart irrigation technology into your property’s landscaping is just one part of the overall water management plan. If you have questions or need recommendations on how to improve your property’s landscape water efficiency, reach out to us today.
