New Downtown San Diego Library
Benchmark Landscape has been awarded the landscape installation contract for the new Central Library in downtown San Diego.
“Benchmark is excited to be a part of this project,” said John Mohns, president, Benchmark Landscape. “Not only is this a great opportunity for us to help create a beautiful library for all of San Diego, but to showcase our incredibly talented team and the wonderful work that they do.”
The Central Library will be located at 330 Park Boulevard –11th Avenue in the East Village adjacent to Petco Park. The project is expected to start in the fall of 2012 with completion slated for summer of 2013.
Benchmark will be furnishing the landscape at this beautiful addition to the downtown scene. Complete with a living wall referred to as a “green screen”, this wall will be installed between the 9th and penthouse level. The wall will be fully animated with vines growing through the interior courtyard, accented by cobble stone underneath the trellis system. The Penthouse will be equipped with vines installed in fiberglass planters. Along the street will be a unique Decomposed Granite pathway with native plant material, completed by planters inset within the building allowing for natural light element. Other keynotes notes include a rock garden on the 5th floor, shade tolerant plants on the 2nd level of the parking garage, and a small landscape courtyard situated on the 9th floor. When this project is completed, Benchmark will have aided in the process of creating a wonderful new root in the downtown San Diego atmosphere for all to enjoy.
